Tour Itinerary

Highlights:

After pick up from your hotel or accomodation, we will start the tour with Yuyuan Garden - a classic private garden dating from the Ming dynasty. Each of its (interconnected by round gates) courtyards is a petite banzai of man made beauty - recreating (the much bigger) tranquil lakes, lethargic rivers and souring mountains and placing them amidst graceful pavillions and serpentine bridges.

Take a walk down the Old Street, in existence since the Qing dynasty, and refurbished as a tourist boulevard with the eastern section retaining its old late -imperial, early-republic architecture and the western section imitating the market bazaars from Ming and Qing.

Our bus will then take you to the Bund on the bank of Huangpu River, the most spectacular street in Asia in the days of the Old Shanghai. The grand, colonial style edifices housed banks and trading houses from Britain, France, USA, Russia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Japan. For the architecture-minded, the 52 buildings in this district range from Gothic and Baroque to Neo-Classical and Art-Deco.

We will slow down the pace with a visit to the Shanghai Museum of Ancient Chinese Art and peruse the ancient relics from all over China.

After lunch, we will drive you around the former French Concession, nowadays a charming little district full of colonial-era private residences and alternative lifestyle bars.

Stopping by the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Store where you will find an ideal Chinese souvenir or gift at discount price, we will waste no time and move on to the Jade Buddha Temple and view the priceless jade statues on display in tastefully illuminated halls.

We will end the tour in Xintiandi, a stylish shopping and nightlife disctrict where the local trendsetters revamp their wardropes in the boutiques and dance off a day's fatigue in the MANY nightclubs. Have a couple of drink to unwind if you wish or go back to your hotel with the group.
