Tour Itinerary

P2-03 Temple of Heaven & Yonghe Lamasery

Highlights:

- Roundtrip transportation provided. An item in our Private Tour line, you (and your friends if you booked together) will enjoy the services of our guide and driver assigned specifically to you (and your friends).

We will begin this half day tour with the Temple of Heaven - viewed by many as the epitome in Chinese imperial altar/temple architecture. You will probably recognize the round temple (and its accompanying round altar) right away too as its image is featured on many Beijing tourist guides. Aside from its historical value, the temple complex boasts several "interactive" architectural wonders, i.e. the Resounding Wall. Our guide will take you to every single one of them and let you test their merits yourself.

We will then move on to the Lama Temple (Yonghegong or Yonghe Lamasery), one of the city's most famous (and still operating - if you chance by the area the eighth day of the last Chinese lunar month, you'd come across long queues lining up for a bowl of la ba congee) temples. Formerly a prince's residence and converted to a temple after the said prince ascended the throne, the temple housed Lamas from Mongolia and Tibet during the Qing dynasty and still serves this function in present time. Don't leave without stepping into the Pavillion of Ten Thousand Happiness for the 18m tall (single) sandlewood Maitreya Buddha, and stop by the five halls with assorted bronze/wood statues.

- As the Yonghe Lamasery is an operating temple with resident Lamas, please be considerate in your conducts when visiting the premises.
